Natural Sweets
and Healthy Treats

by Rita Bingham and Kimberly Bingham
with Foreword by Dr. Marilyn Joyce

Food! Food!! Food!!! Everywhere, food! If that is what we can call it! In the dictionary food is defined as "any substance that can be metabolized by an organism to give energy and build tissue." Yet, as you will discover in Natural Sweets and Healthy Treats, this is not what is happening with the food our youth, and our population in general, are consuming. Instead of building up and regenerating our bodies, what we are eating is tearing down our bodies. We live on party food and snacks, on the run, everyday. And our choices are killing us. Literally!

We live in a world where eating on the run has become a way of life, and snacks are the main menu! We just love TREATS. But let's take a look at those treats - there's nothing in most of them that will serve to build a healthy body! A toaster pastry and soda on the way to school, a coffee and donut on the way to work, a mid-morning bag of chips or a chocolate bar and soda as a pick-me-up that leaves us dragging an hour later, burger and fries inhaled as we grab lunch on the run to our next commitment, soda and candy bar to get us through the afternoon. Then we pick up KFC or pizza at the drive through on the way home because we're just too pooped to prepare dinner when we get there!”

What’s the Solution? In our other books, we've supplied healthful whole food recipes for every meal of the day, but very few recipes for snacks or desserts, because we believe that the best snacks are raw fruits and vegetables. But since so many people are snacking these days, and since there's such an influx of UN-healthy products being touted as “good for you”, we decided the time had come to supply you with nutritious, delicious alternatives.
